The flash website for the game “The Darkness” is very inspirational. The opening video gives the message that he is going to commit a crime. A clip like this could be used for the opening of my website, then it could fade to black with a gun shot. This could give the impression of a murder taking place, without spelling it out for the viewer, it would add more mystery.

Something simple like clouds and rain, maybe some thunder and lightening for the flash banner to set the scene of the crime.

The pointer for the website becomes red dot laser sight from a gun. It’s unusual and works well with the overall all feeling of the site. It makes the site a little different and more memorable

Crime Scene Style

October 19, 2009 at 9:58 am (BFMV Website)

I want the crime scene style for the website to be quite evident. I have a few ideas of how I can develop it further. The page for the band could be called “Suspects”, while having the photos of the band look like mug-shots. Certain ares, like the edge of a photo, could roll over to uncover evidence about who commited the crime. There could be a poll for viewer’s to vote which band member is guilty. It could almost be like a little game inside the site. The intro video could show security camera footage of a crime. The only reservation I have about implementing some of these ideas is that the website is for the band, first and foremost. If the website becomes too much about the crimescene than viewers may get confused as to the purpose of the site.

sin_cityThe Sin City style could be applied to my website. It’s very dark and edgy – perfect for a rock group. Limiting the colours to black, white, red and grey will also mean that the viewer will get less confused. It will be easier to establish a hierarchy.sin-city-graphic-novel

For the overall style of my website, I’d like to create a mixture of photography and illustration. I think that less detailed illustration will work better as the images may be small on the page and the detail could be lost. The viewer may only look at the image for a few seconds, so they wouldn’t get time to appricate the detail. The illustration and photography should be incorporated together as it looks better than one just pasted on top of the other.

Some of the ideas I’ve had for the overall style include

  • a crime-scene: as the band is “Bullet” and one of their tracks is “Hand of Blood”. The imagery could include things like police do not cross tapes, chalk body outlines, flashlights etc.
  • a tombstone: after the song “10 Years Today”. This song is about the lead singer’s friend that died suddenly. The song is very moving and sad. Images would be quite soft, main colours – blue, green. Roses would appear in the footer. They could be part of the flash animation
  • an American style comic-book: typography would look hand-drawn, white bars would separate images and text, speech bubbles could be used
