http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_sitcom

British sitcom: they tend to be based on a family, workplace or other institution where a group of contrasting characters are brought together each episode. A common factor is the exploration of social mores, often with a mix of satire or pathos. British comedies are typically produced in series of six episodes each.

Recent comedies on the BBC

Some of the of the biggest hits of the 1990s were Father Ted, Absolutely Fabulous, Birds of a Feather, The Vicar of Dibley and One Foot in the Grave.

The BBC has also begun using its digital channels BBC Three and BBC Four to build a following for off-beat series like The Thick of It. The commercial station Channel 4 has had recent successes with Spaced, Phoenix Nights, Black Books, Green Wing, Peep Show and The Inbetweeners.

Currently, very few British-originated sitcoms are in production in the UK. Some of the current popular sitcoms in the UK include Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, which ended its eighth series in 2009, and The IT Crowd, which has recently finished a fourth series.

Again has a similar target market, with shows for the younger audience on during the day: Two & A Half Men, Scrubs, That 70s Show, The King of Queens etc. Adult shows are then broadcast after 9 pm eg. South Park, Sex & the City. Live Performances from comedians are also broadcast on this channel. The style of it is very in your face & loud.

E4 / Channel 4

November 11, 2010 at 1:36 pm (motion idents)

E4 is the same kind of channel as the one mentioned in the brief. It has a joyous, upbeat message & most of the programming is light entertainment. Channel 4 has some of these types of shows, but not as many as E4.
